Steering and suspension
Steering and suspension are critical components in your car, but also one of the most neglected. The task of the suspension is to ensure 100% grip with the road at all times. Faulty shock absorbers will allow the tyres to lose grip, which means longer braking times and harder control. I learnt this the hard way when I used to race speedway. Me and my mates bought an old “paddock basher” and prepared it for race day. We were so keen that the paint was still wet when we put it on the track! The first corner I came to, the rear end came loose and to my surprise I couldn’t ‘opposite lock’ my way out of it – the fishtailing got worse until I was stopped very abruptly by the concrete wall. We straightened it up, put new shock absorbers on it and suddenly the car was controllable – fishtailing was now fun!
Obviously our roads are no place to ‘fishtail’ and we want all 4 wheels on the ground at all times, especially in the wet, so well maintained suspension and steering components are critical. Shock Absorber manufactures recommend changing every 100,000 kms.
We can also upgrade your suspension for load carrying or 4WDing as well. We don’t mind supplementing home mechanics – We are happy to do the things that you can’t do, but suspension and steering is something that should be left to the experts. Springs are under a lot of tension and without the right tools and knowhow, it can kill you.
